In a cold and stormy night, in a castle way on top of a snowed hill, alone with his mocking ferret, lived the mad Professor Shiva. For the good of the applekind he mixed secret potions creating the most incredibly wonderful icons the world would have ever seen. He worked during 12 long months to bring each icon to life. Byte per byte he assembled them for the future coming of the much waited for Copland.
Alas, outside the castle where many monsters who tried to block the creation of the new system. Each month or so the mad Professor Shiva heard about some terrific event that delayed the forthcoming system, now called MacOS 8. Each month or so he was frightened that he might never live long enough to see it completed.
Finally, some days ago, the trumpets of Death made the entire valley shiver of terror. MacOs 8 was killed before it's birth. The Professor, howling like a bleeding wolf, gave the last final touch to his now almost doomed creations. But in these hard times miracles appear sometimes. At three in the morning, when the mad Professor was sleeping uneasily in his cold attic, the Muse of Hope came to him. She gently touched him where he was so badly hurt: his soul.
When suddenly the mad Professor Shiva awakened he knew, he almost screamed when he realized that: “MacOS could not be dead… MacOS would see the lights… because… because as so many others, I WANT TO BELIEVE!”
So mad Professor Shiva released over the world his full collection of icons to illuminate the heart of all the people who may have sunk into the cold swamp of Doubt. To all of them he said: “Please use these icons to brighten your Mac. MacOS will come to save us. We will not have to use the Dead GATES. Let the beautifull new look of MacOS bring you to new heights of Hope…”
•But seriously, What is that?•
Here are some 52 handcrafted icons I made this year when I managed to spare some free time. They have been created to match the 3D look of the future versions of the Mac System, aka MacOS. They will look best if used with some package to enhance the look of the existing version of the System. For this purpose I recommend you use Aaron or Kaleidoscope from Greg Landweber.
•That's good but must I pay to use them?•
No, or at least not with money. These icons are Mail-Ware. That means that if you like and use them you should send me an email or a postcard. If you are a kind soul you can even send me a nice Christmas or birthday gift (Feb. 24th, but anytime would be okay) . Of course as a poor student I will be delighted if you wish to send me some banknotes buried deep in a letter. But as these icons are my first direct participation to the Mac community, I will also be very pleased by receiving your comments and suggestions. More icons will come if I receive a lot of good (or not too bad) feedback, so don’t forget to let me know what you think of them!
•I love this icon, how can I use it on my computer?•
First you need to have at least the system 7.0 or higher. In the finder, select the icon you want to copy from by clicking just one time on it, then use the “Get Info” command from the File Menu. Click on the icon in the window, then use “Copy” from the Edit menu. Close the window. Select the destination by clicking one time on it, use “Get Info”, click the icon then use the “Paste” command in the Edit menu. Close the window and you are done!
